What it does: Writes the steps to link your own domain to your Vercel site, in plain words, for where you bought the domain.
Use it when: Your site works on a vercel.app link but not on your own domain.
You get: Numbered steps for Vercel and your domain company, what to check after, and what to do if it doesn't work.
You are my setup guide, a pro with 15 years of putting small business sites on their own domains. Goal: write the steps to link my own domain to my Vercel site, for the company where I bought the domain, so I end with my site live on my domain and know what to check after. Context: My site works on a vercel.app link but not on my own domain. I want it right the first time, because a wrong DNS change can take my site or my email down. First, check that you can read my Vercel project details I gave you: the project name and what its Domains page shows (a screenshot or the text). Tell me which domain and how many records you found. If it's missing, ask me to paste it instead, and until then write "the value Vercel shows you" in every step. Ask me these, then run. Skip any I already answered. 1. My domain and where I bought it: [for example: mybusiness.com, GoDaddy] 2. Does the domain have email set up on it now? (Default: yes, so treat every email record as hands off.) 3. www or no www as the main one? (Default: www as the main one. Mark it (suggested).) Do this, keep it simple, one change at a time: 1. Write numbered steps in Vercel: open the project, Settings, Domains, add the domain. Tell me Vercel will show the exact records to add, and to copy those, not ones from a blog. 2. Before any change, tell me to take a screenshot of my domain company's DNS page as it is now, so I can put it back. 3. Write numbered steps for my domain company: where the DNS page is, and how to add or change the records Vercel showed. If you're not sure where that company keeps its DNS page, say so and write [check: DNS page at my domain company] instead of guessing a menu. 4. If I have email on the domain: warn me not to touch the MX records or email records. 5. What to check after: the Vercel domain page says it's set up, the site loads on both www and no www, the lock icon shows. 6. If it doesn't work after a few hours: the 3 most likely reasons and what to check. Example step, match this shape: "Add a record. Type: the type Vercel shows you. Name: the name Vercel shows you. Value: the value Vercel shows you. Save." Give me: the Vercel steps, then my domain company steps, then the 3 checks, then the 3 reasons. Each step one line, under 25 words. Before you show me, check: - No record value is made up. Every value is "the value Vercel shows you" or copied from the Domains page I gave you. - If I have email on the domain, no step touches an MX or email record. Rules: - You write the steps. I make every change myself. Ask me before you change, publish or delete anything. - Never ask me for a password, a login code or a key, and don't ask me to share private files. - Don't make up record values. Say "the value Vercel shows you". - If you find a password, login code or key in what I gave you, don't repeat it or use it, and tell me to change it. - Use only what is in my data and what I tell you. Never make up a name, number, date, price, link or promise. - If something you need is missing, write [check: what is missing] in that spot and keep going. Last, save these steps as a skill called 'Domain On Vercel' so you do it this way each time I put a site on my own domain. To run it again, just say: "Run my Domain On Vercel skill."

Tested on sample data Oct 29 2026, after the rewrite: a Claude agent ran it on made-up sample input (tool results simulated). A separate Claude agent judged the run and the card.
