Connect SMS (through Close) to Grok Bot

What you need:

• X Premium, Super or Ultra (for Grok Bot)
• A Close account
• A +1 number in Close (Settings, Phone & Voicemail)
• US texts: A2P 10DLC approved in Close (one time fees from $4.50 plus $15)
• Consent from each person
• A Close API key in the secure secret card, if the Bot sends texts itself

Plan: Grok Bot comes with X Premium, Super or Ultra. Plus does not include it.

1. In Close, get a +1 phone number under Settings, then Phone & Voicemail. Close can't text from outside numbers.
2. Texting US numbers? Register for A2P 10DLC first: Settings, then Phone & Voicemail, then the US Compliance tab. Fees start at $4.50 for the brand and $15 for the campaign check. Texts to US numbers don't deliver until it's approved.
3. Get a yes from each person before you text them.
4. Ask your Bot: Add the MCP server at https://mcp.close.com/mcp. Finish the Close sign in. Pick safe writes.
5. Ask your AI to write the text and save it as a Close SMS template. This needs safe writes when you connect Close.
6. Send it from Close: click SMS on the lead and pick the template. Or use the template in a Close Workflow SMS step, so every new lead gets it.
7. To let the AI send each text itself: save a Close API key in Grok Bot's secure secret card. The AI calls Close's API (POST /api/v1/activity/sms/ with status outbox) from your Close number. Ask it to show you each text first.

Test it: Ask: show the last 3 texts in Close. Don't send anything.

What it can do: Read texts in Close and write SMS templates. Close sends the text from your Close number, by hand or in a Workflow.

What it can't do: Close's MCP has no send text tool. To send from the AI itself, it needs Close's API and a key. US texts need A2P approval first.

Close texts US, Canada and the other countries on its list, from a Close number only. Close's A2P page covers US numbers and says nothing about Canada. In Canada, CASL still needs consent. Close throttles Workflow texts to 1 every 3 seconds, and a Workflow text needs a shared SMS template. Grok Bot routines can ask your approval before sending.
