Short answer

How do I write a job post with AI?

To write a job post with AI, give it the real facts first: the job title, what the person will do day to day, pay range, location or remote, hours, and the must-have skills. Then ask for a short, plain post with a clear title, a few lines about the job, a short list of duties, and how to apply. Read it like a job seeker would and fix anything that is vague or not true.

Steps

  1. 1

Write down the facts in rough notes.

Title, pay, hours, location, who they report to, what a normal day looks like, and the three things they must be able to do. Bullet points are fine. Messy is fine.

  2. 2

Ask a current team member one question.

"What does a good week in this job look like?" Their answer is gold for the post, and AI cannot make it up for you.

  3. 3

Paste your notes into a prompt below.

Use ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot.

  4. 4

    Cut the fluff.

AI likes words like "dynamic" and "fast moving". Delete anything a real person would not say out loud.

  5. 5

Check the facts and the rules.

Make sure pay, benefits and duties are right. Check your local pay transparency and hiring rules, or ask HR, before you post.

  6. 6

Post it and save the prompt.

Next time you hire, you only change the notes.

Job post from rough notes

PromptPaste into any AI
You are a hiring manager at a [type of company, for example a family owned plumbing supply distributor].
Here are my rough notes for a job opening: [paste notes: title, pay, hours, location, duties, must haves, nice to haves].
Write a job post a real person would want to read.
Format: a clear job title, 2 or 3 sentences about the job, a short list of what you will do, a short list of what you need, pay and hours, and how to apply.
Use plain words. Under 350 words. No buzzwords like dynamic, rockstar or fast paced.
Only use facts from my notes. If something important is missing, list it at the end as a question for me.

Make an old job post better

PromptPaste into any AI
Here is our old job post: [paste it].
Rewrite it so it is shorter and easier to read on a phone.
Keep every fact the same. Remove buzzwords and anything that sounds like a robot wrote it.
Put pay and hours near the top.
Then list 3 things that might turn a good candidate away, and how to fix each one.

Screening questions to go with the post

PromptPaste into any AI
Here is a job post: [paste it].
Write 5 short screening questions I can ask applicants in the form or on a 10 minute phone call.
Each question should help me tell if they can do [the most important part of the job].
Plain words. No trick questions. Do not ask about age, family, health, religion or anything personal.

Example

This is a made-up example. Rough notes: "Inside sales rep. $55k to $65k plus commission. Mon to Fri 8 to 4:30, in office in Dayton. Answer phones and emails from contractors, quote pipe and fittings, follow up on quotes. Must know how to use a computer and be good on the phone. Trades experience is a plus."

A good AI answer starts like this:

Inside Sales Rep, Dayton (in office)

You will help contractors get the pipe and fittings they need, fast. Most of your day is on the phone and email, writing quotes and following up on them. If you like helping people and solving problems, you will like this job.

Then it lists the duties, the must haves, pay of $55,000 to $65,000 plus commission, and how to apply. Nothing in it was made up. It just took the notes and made them easy to read.

Tips

  • Put the pay range in. Many people skip posts that hide it, and some places require it.
  • Say what a normal day looks like. That one detail helps the right people apply and the wrong ones skip it.
  • Ask the AI for three title options. "Inside Sales Rep" gets found more than a made up title.
  • If you post on a few sites, ask the AI for a short version too.

What not to do

  • Do not let the AI add benefits, perks or a company story you did not give it. Check every line.
  • Do not paste private details about the person who is leaving or any employee into the AI.
  • Do not copy another company's post and ask AI to "change it a bit". Write from your own notes.

FAQ

Which AI tool is best for job posts?

Any of the big ones works. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot all write good job posts when your notes are clear. Use the one you already have.

Will people know AI wrote it?

Only if you leave in the stiff words. Read it out loud. If it sounds like you talking to a friend about the job, you are good.

Can AI help me write the interview questions too?

Yes. Paste the final post and ask for questions tied to the duties. The interview prompts are a good place to start.

Is it legal to use AI for job posts?

Using AI to draft the words is fine for most businesses, but you are still responsible for what the post says. If you are unsure about pay or hiring rules where you are, check with HR or a lawyer.
