Connect WhatsApp (through Unipile) to Claude Code

What you need:

• A Unipile account (paid, from 49 EUR a month, 7 day free trial)
• Your account linked in Unipile
• A scoped Unipile API key, saved in the app's secret store or connector screen

Plan: A Claude Code login.

1. Create a Unipile account. It is paid, from 49 EUR a month for up to 10 accounts, with a 7 day free trial.
2. Connect your WhatsApp in Unipile. You scan a QR code from your phone, or type a pairing code in WhatsApp.
3. Make a scoped API key in Unipile. Keep it in Unipile and your app's secret store only.
4. In your own terminal (not in a chat), save the key: export UNIPILE_API_KEY=your-key
5. Run: claude mcp add --transport http --scope user unipile "https://developer.unipile.com/mcp?branch=v2.0" --header "X-API-KEY: ${UNIPILE_API_KEY}"
6. Run claude mcp list, or /mcp in a session, to check it.

Test it: Ask: list my 10 newest WhatsApp chats. Don't send anything.

What it can do: Read and send WhatsApp messages for the number you link in Unipile.

What it can't do: It can send, so ask read questions first and approve each send. Text only people who said yes to it.

For replies 24/7, Unipile sends new messages to a webhook you set up.
