Short answer

What are the best AI prompts for LinkedIn messages, posts and profiles?

The best AI prompts for LinkedIn do three things: rewrite your profile so a buyer knows what you do in five seconds, write short direct messages that sound like a person, and turn a real story from your week into a post. Copy your profile text or the person's profile into ChatGPT or Claude, use a prompt below, and edit the answer so it sounds like you. LinkedIn also has some AI writing help built in for Premium members, depending on the plan.

Steps

  1. 1

    Pick the job.

Profile, message or post. Each needs a different prompt, so do one at a time.

  2. 2

    Copy the text in.

For your profile, copy your headline and About section. For a message, copy the person's headline, About section and a recent post if they have one. You can also download your own data from LinkedIn under Settings, Data privacy, Get a copy of your data.

  3. 3

    Tell the AI about you.

Add one or two lines about what you sell and who you help. Without this, the answers are generic.

  4. 4

Use a prompt below and ask for options.

Ask for 2 or 3 versions so you can pick the one that sounds most like you.

  5. 5

Edit it in your own words.

Change any word you would never say out loud. People on LinkedIn can tell when a post or message was not written by a person.

  6. 6

    Post or send it yourself.

Paste it into LinkedIn and send. Do not use tools that send messages automatically, they can put your account at risk.

Prompts you can copy

Fix your headline and About section

PromptPaste into any AI
You are a LinkedIn profile writer for salespeople and business owners.

What I do: [your job and company].
Who I help: [type of customer].
The problem I solve for them: [in their words].
One true thing that makes me different: [years in the industry, a niche, a result].

Here is my current headline and About section: [paste].

Write 3 headline options under 15 words each that say who I help and how. Then write a new About section under 150 words, in first person, plain words, short paragraphs. End the About with a simple line on how to reach me. No buzzwords like "passionate," "results driven" or "thought leader."

Write a short first message

PromptPaste into any AI
You are a friendly salesperson writing a LinkedIn message to someone I just connected with.

About them: [paste their headline, About section and a recent post if they have one].
About me: [what you do and who you help].

Write a message under 40 words. Lower case is fine. Start with something about their work, not about me. Ask one simple question about how they handle [the problem you solve] today. No pitch, no link, no meeting ask in this first message.

Give me 3 versions.

Turn a work story into a post

PromptPaste into any AI
You are helping me write a LinkedIn post in my own voice. I am a [your role] at [type of company].

Here is what happened this week: [tell the story in a few messy sentences, with real details].

Write a post under 200 words. First line is the moment or the result, short and plain. One idea per line, short lines. Keep any numbers exactly as I gave them, and do not add new ones. End with a real question to the reader. No hashtags, no emoji, no "here is what I learned."

Give me 2 versions.

Reply to a comment or a message

PromptPaste into any AI
Someone left this on my LinkedIn [post / message]: [paste it].

My post or my last message said: [paste it].

Write a short reply under 40 words. Thank them in a natural way if it fits, answer what they said, and ask one follow up question if it makes sense. Sound like a person, not a brand.

Example

This is a made-up example. A rep at a packaging distributor pastes a headline that says "Account Manager at ABC Packaging." The profile prompt might suggest: "I help food makers in Texas get boxes and labels on time, every time." That tells a buyer who you help and why they should care, which "Account Manager" never did.

Tips

  • Your headline matters more than any post. It shows next to every message and comment you write.
  • In messages, ask about their world before you talk about yours. The LinkedIn DM guide has more examples.
  • Write posts from real things that happened. A small true story beats a big generic lesson. See the LinkedIn posts guide.
  • Keep a note of lines you like so the AI can copy your style next time. Paste 2 or 3 of your past posts and say "write like this."

What not to do

  • Do not send the same AI message to 100 people. It shows, and people stop reading.
  • Do not let AI add numbers, results or stories that did not happen.
  • Do not use browser tools that click and send for you. LinkedIn limits and can restrict accounts that act like bots.

FAQ

Does LinkedIn have its own AI writer?

LinkedIn offers some AI writing help, like profile and message suggestions, for Premium members on some plans. You can also copy these prompts into ChatGPT or Claude for free.

How long should a LinkedIn message be?

Short. Under 40 words for a first message. If it looks like an email, most people skip it.

Should I use AI to write every post?

Use it to shape your post, not to make up the story. You bring the real moment and the details, the AI helps you cut it down and make it easy to read.

Can AI help me find people on LinkedIn?

AI chat tools cannot search LinkedIn for you. Use LinkedIn search or Sales Navigator to find people, then use AI to read their profile and write the message.
